[via stadium-love-]

ESPN just published an article about a possible PAC-16 with the Longhorns & Sooners both moving West. Plenty of people are up in arms about everything that’s going on in college football, but as you might be able to tell, I don’t care. Between scandals, the mess that is the BCS, and more scandals, I’ve given up wondering about whats good for the game. Whether we like it or not, money-grabbing will continue at the expense of both tradition and the integrity of the game.

But don’t get me wrong, I love college football. I don’t care about it in the off-season because its soul destroying, but when teams actually get out on the field and play, you repeatedly get the kind of product that watchers of the Auburn game yesterday were treated to. I don’t care how hopeless the whole venture is, football on Saturdays is one of the best things about this world.

Oh, and as far as that picture goes, isn’t it just fantastic?

No doubt, this is the most stunning piece of business in quite...

No doubt, this is the most stunning piece of business in quite some time. (For anyone who still can’t get their heads round it, Nnamdi really did choose the Eagles). That said, there’s still some issues to be ironed out.

Firstly, the Philadelphia Eagles Cornerbacks:

Nnamdi Asomugha

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (acquired in the Kolb trade)

Asante Samuel

Three-into-two doesn’t go. Yes Asomugha is probably only 2nd to Revis in his position in the entire the league, but where do you fit two more Pro-Bowl cornerbacks? The Eagles got a huge steal on some big rivals (Jerry Jones watching Asomugha wearing green in Cowboys Stadium anyone?) but as far as upgrades go, they’ve taken a step up in an already great position.

Secondly, DeSean Jackson is already threatening to hold out. With a 5 Year, $60m contract just given to a cornerback, where are the Eagles going to find the money to keep their No.1 receiver happy?

Andy Reid has won in this deal, that’s for sure. But we won’t find out by how much for some time.

I don’t care that my team’s management of the free...

I don’t care that my team’s management of the free agent market is more like a Headless Chicken than a Seahawk.

They played some great basketball and each and every player on the roster is a deserved winner of their first ring.

But that’s not the story anyone is interested in. Whether you think its some irrational ESPN bias or just the after effects of ‘the decision’, people care more about Miami failing than Dallas winning.

Scatch that, people care more about LeBron.

Many feel vindicated that the man who tried to find a shortcut to a ring (Dan Gilbert’s words, not mine) failed. They feel vindicated not only that James still has no championship to his name, but that he failed in such a spectacular way. ‘Game 4’ is the new ‘Game 5’.

Others, admittedly a much smaller number, have expressed sympathy for LeBron. They recognised that being only a couple of stats short of a triple-double is nothing to bemoan. They cite the fact that if James had gone one-for-twelve shooting at the start of Game 6 he’d have received a level of criticism Dirk now never needs worry about.

I don’t feel that sympathy for LeBron. He brought it upon himself, but that’s just another story you’ve already heard.

The man I feel sympathy for is Chris Bosh.

The ‘gentleman of the NBA’ was labelled as part of the Big 3 the moment that celebration happened last year. But as the season went on, it became increasingly clear that Bosh wasn’t viewed alongside the other two. This may be because he simply isn’t as good, but there are other factors.

Wade & James have become a fixture at each others side during all those apologetic press conferences. Meanwhile, Chris was left to face the sharks by himself.

Look back to ‘fake cough gate’. Who’s the one making fun of Dirk?

Wade? Yes.

LeBron? Yes.

Meanwhile, Bosh is again absent.

The whole ‘Miami Heatness’ that America, and the world, seems to so despise, has been missing from Bosh’s game and actions at many key points this year.

He even avoided it in Game 6. Posting incredibly efficient numbers, Bosh helped keep Miami in a game that LeBron repeatedly made sure that they would lose.

You can’t blame Bosh for leaving Toronto in the way you can blame Lebron’s decision. Bosh was simply moving on in a way most NBA players do. Moving to a bigger market to play with a superstar. He didn’t need a TV special to announce it either.

Everyone knows the story, Miami has superstars, Dallas has a team. As far as the rest of the Heat go, they’re bit-part players whose rings would have belonged as much to the Big 3 as themselves.

Sympathy for LeBron, you can take it or leave it.

Sympathy for Wade, I doubt there’s much. Besides, he already has his ring.

But Bosh has earned his sympathy. He put in the hard graft, and as has happened to many many players over the years, left empty handed.

Congratulating the winners is always important, something LeBron missed at the end of Game 6. But commiserating the losers is almost as vital, and last night Chris Bosh was the loser.

Commiserations Chris, there’s always next year.

You’ll have already read about 239862480 articles about...

You’ll have already read about 239862480 articles about Game 6.

Read another.

Trust me, it’s worth it.

[via gotemcoach]

The Miami Heat are desperate, but so are the Dallas Mavericks.

That’s what makes tonight’s Game 6 so intriguing.

After taking the first two road games from the Los Angeles Lakers during their Western Conference Semifinal, the joke on Dallas was, “Game 3 was a must-win situation.” Only it was no joke. Every basketball pundit, player and coach (especially the one that looks like Jim Carrey), knew the Mavs needed to keep momentum. You’ve knocked the defending champ down, now don’t let them get off the canvass, or hardwood as it may be. To the Mavs’ credit, they never let up. Game 4 was tantamount to murder. It was as though each Dallas Maverick was issued a 2x4 with a single nail, and ordered to bludgeon the Lakers until they stopped breathing. Each 3-pointer, of the 400 they seemed to make in the series-clinching win, was a headshot. It was brutal. It was bloodlust.

What drives a team to be so ruthless? Desperation. The Mavs are by no means a young team, like say the Oklahoma City Thunder (who probably learned more as a team by losing in the Playoffs than they would have gained had they won the whole damn thing). This Dallas team isn’t on the way up. They’re at the peak. The best Dallas Mavericks team ever. Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd know very well they’ll never, ever, have a better shot at winning a title, and they’re valiantly fighting against the dying light. This is it. That’s what’s at stake here.

Only problem is Miami’s desperation may be just as desperate, and only in part because they’re actually on the brink of elimination.

The Decision, the rally, the goddamn fog machine. “Not 3. Not 4. Not 5. Not 6. Not 7…” In the summer of 2010, the Miami triumvirate were, by all accounts, wrong. If the Heat can win the 2011 NBA Championship, Wade, Bosh and more specifically LeBron, go from being wrong, to being very right. They wanted the once in a lifetime opportunity to win rings, and they will have been right in doing so. Everything is erased. No more jokes. No more criticism. It’s all gone. That’s what’s at stake here.

Quite the match-up. So who wins?

Well, that’s the best part. From my seat (which is the seat of a man who’d like both teams to miraculously lose) Miami is stumbling to the finish line. They choked away two games, which led to the inevitable Dallas shooting display and a 3-2 series deficit. Shouldn’t be surprising. At the beginning of the year, experts said it would take Miami one season to put it all together, and they’re right. It should take Miami one year, but they’re talented enough to take advantage of a league in transition - Boston and LA are on the descent, Chicago and Oklahoma City are still young and vulnerable. The experts said LeBron and Wade’s games wouldn’t mesh, and they were right. Don’t let the spectacular fast breaks mislead you. These two are taking turns (they probably need a year).

Miami is here by sheer wealth of talent, and make no mistake about it, they have more talent. Maybe Dallas is the better team, but that team might not be as good as LeBron is as a singular player. He is the unstoppable force and the immovable object. If the James shows up in any of the 4th quarters from Game 2 on, this series is probably over. If he takes over tonight, Dallas will have no answer. This all hangs on the King.

He’s at the precipice of greatness, or on the verge of being torn to ribbons.

Miami will be one home game away from winning a championship, or a laughingstock.

That’s what’s at stake here. No pressure.

Things I love from all around the world are delivered directly to my face, and when all is good in my world, which to be brutally honest is most of the time, I can scroll through page upon page of happy reminders of just how lucky I am.

But when your team chokes horribly and all but throws itself out of the playoffs, Tumblr hurts. Page after page after page of reminders that soon you’ll be joining the the other 26 groups of losing fans in hearing “There’s always next year”, and even sooner you’ll be hearing “Techincally, technically, they aren’t out of it yet.”

Don’t worry KD, you didn’t ruin my day.

It was all your fault Tumblr.

“There’s something about ZBo’s face that reminds me of the...

“There’s something about ZBo’s face that reminds me of the poster for The 40 Year Old Virgin.
